When I try to subscribe to this RSS feed, Firefox offers me a choice of using itself or Akgregator for the purpose. When I choose Akgregator, it comes to front but otherwise nothing happens; the feed does not get added to its list.

Which version of openSUSE you have?
If you use KDE or GNOME?
Try making a test user and see if you get the same problem.

openSUSE 11.2 with KDE.
A test user gets RSS feeds into Akgregator all right.
Indeed, I can get RSS into Akgregator as well now that I have told Akgregator to quit.
