Default Cannot change dm to gdm

I installed opensuse with xfce, then added e17, changed dm to entrance, it is not working Then installed gdm, changed sysconfig settings to the display manager gdm, but it won't start.
    # chkconfig -a gdm
    gdm: unknown service
    # whereis gdm
    gdm: /usr/bin/gdm /usr/sbin/gdm /etc/gdm /usr/lib/gdm /usr/bin/X11/gdm /usr/share/gdm

It is not present in /etc/init.d, so maybe I should add it there somehow?

IIRC there is no service called gdm, it's called xdm and you edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, variable DISPLAYMANAGER to choose the DM.

I did that earlier, it is not working. How can it if it is not in /etc/init.d ?

There should be an /etc/init.d/xdm which handles all the DMs. There is no /etc/init.d/gdm in openSUSE to my knowledge.

Working now My mistake was that I was thinking that this login manager is xdm, so chckonfig it off, then nothing was starting, but it seems it is this earlyxdm or how it called, and xdm is thing that manages all these dm's Thanks, working now, chkonfig xdm on, and then dm configured by yast began to work
