Congratz I would have never stuck with it as long as you did. But now you know that the numbers in the package names usually mean something,

    Summarization of the topic:
    Wireless adapter D-Link DWA-140 H/W ver: B2 ,USB
lsusb command shows id of this device as : ID 07d1:3c0a D-Link System
Driver to use: rt3070sta from openSUSE Build Service (OBS), module needs additional firmware - rt2870.bin
Actions to make this device working on openSUSE 11.2 are:
    1. Add to blacklist rt2870sta, rt2800usb, rt2x00usb, rt2x00lib modules in /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf file
Check these modules with lsmod command. If they were loaded, remove them with rmmod command.
    2. Check kernel version with uname -a command. Search, download and install packages rt3070sta-kmp-*.rpm , rt3070sta-common-*.rpm. Packages depends of kernel version. Software.openSUSE.org
Check firmware file rt2870.bin in /lib/firmware/ directory. If it doesn't exist, then download and install ralink-firmware-*.noarch.rpm . Instead of ralink-firmware-*.noarch.rpm it's possible to download latest firmware from Ralink corp.
If firmware have been downloaded from ralinktech.com, unpack archive and copy rt2870.bin file into /lib/firmware/ directory.
    3. Plug adapter, check available wlan[0-9] network intrfaces with ip link list command. If interface exist, try to activate it with ip or ifconfig command. Check interfaces with wireless extentions with iwconfig command.
    4. Setup device with yast or network manager.

    That's all.
    Best regards.
