Thread: How To Install Bugzilla?

    Default How To Install Bugzilla?

I am running an openSuse 11.1 server.

How easy is it to install a complete Bugzilla system for my own internal use?

Is there an rpm that will set it up automatically?

Is it part of the distro? Or 11.2 or 11.3?

What is the easiest way to install it?

that one you can learn by opening YaST > Software management and
searching on bugzilla (i don't know the answer) and, it may or may not
be in any of the normal repos..

bugzilla is a program...its home is at http://www.bugzilla.org/

imo your questions (after consulting http://www.bugzilla.org/docs/)
    are better placed somewhere there..

however, if you run into openSUSE specific questions maybe someone
    here can help..

but, are any of those the actual bugzilla program? the database driven
    server which collects bug reports?

i see several plug-ins, modules and clients to interact with the
program itself...which one is _the_ program?

The problem comes with the different path of perl. Whereas the Bugzilla expects the perl to be installed in usr/bin/perl, OpenSuse installs it in a completely different location. Eg /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.0/or similar. Then the bugzilla expects additional modules to be loadable by /usr/bin/perl install-module.pl DateTime or so, but in OpenSuse, the install-module is not even known.

    I'm going through it currently...

No, you are confusing the Perl interpreter with the library location.

    /usr/bin/perl is the interpreter, always
    /usr/lib/perl5/... is the library directory

If you find that some Perl modules are missing, there may be RPM packages for it. Generally they are called something like perl-DateTime for example. If no RPM is available from the openSUSE repos (and this is quite possible, since there are hundreds if not thousands of CPAN modules, some very obscure), then you just go to CPAN and get the source and install from that.

Please update your server (or shut it down) - SuSE 11.1 is not supported with updates anymore.

The latest poster isn't the OP of this thread... it's a 'reply' the thread started in April last year....
