Default OpenSUSE 11.2 crashes when using FireFox

Hey guys, I could use a bit of help on this one:

Sometimes, when browsing the internet with FireFox, the entire system freezes. The only thing I can do is moving the mouse pointer, I can't use the Run command or anything else.

It usually happens after a stand-by.

    Can someone help me plz...

Does your keyboard still work then? If so, hit Ctrl + Alt + F10 to view the system messages during the freeze.

Unfortunately no, nothing works anymore. The only things i can do are moving the mouse pointer and turning off the wireless. That's all.

I kinda solved this by installing Google Chrome, but now i discovered that the same thing happens iwth other apps as well, like KTorrent, VLC,... and always after a stand-by.

    Sorry for the double post...

Open /var/log/messages as root (since it can not be read by regular users) and look for the specific time when your system freezes. Any valuable hints there?

i had a problem like that, my computer would completely freeze up when i used wireless on my laptop frequently and so i installed the mad-wifi drivers which solved the problem. just a thought.

Hey I have the same problem too. Most of the times, it happens when I right-click a link in firefox. Everything seems like they froze. But system time and some stuffs are still updated every minute. But I cannot access anything not from keyboard, not from mouse (though it moves). I can't even do ctrl+alt+F6 or anything at all. The only option is to reset the computer.

I will check the /var/log/messages next time.

Hmm. I haven't suffered in these couple of days. BUt just out of curiosity, I want to tell you what I think (only my thought though).. that this happens when I use some sites using java.(or heavy javascript). (MOst of the time it happened when I had my college (ecampus) application on my browser.

You might want to check if its the same in your case. That may give us some hint perhaps.

Haha I am suffering from it again. And guess what i found the culprit, its "kmozillahelper". If your system firefox freezes then kill it, firefox resumes. I do this from my other tty. ctrl+ alt+ f5 and kill it from there if my whole system freezes. Thats the only way, ctrl+alt+backspace wont work.
