Thread: How do I make Firefox faster?

  1. #1

Default How do I make Firefox faster?

I am running Firefox 3.5.8 and I would like it to be faster. It was faster in Ubuntu 9.10.

What can I do to make it faster?

    Thanks.

Go here TweakGuides.com - Firefox Tweak Guide and go crazy. Also If you don't use ipv6, turn it off. Go to Yast>Network Settings>Global Options and uncheck "enable ipv6". Then in firefox, go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>General> and uncheck "use smooth scrolling". Then open the about:config preferences and change network.dns.disableipv6 to true. Reboot, and you should notice a big difference.

    Switch to Chrome.

Unfortunately Chrome doesn't have all the features so one has to use FF sometimes.

When I went to Yast to uncheck "enable ipv6" is said:

    Warning

Network Settings is currently controlled by NetworkManager and it's settings cannot be edited in Yast.

To edit Settings use NetworkManager connection editor, or switch the network setup method to Traditional method with ifup.
but I unchecked "enable ipv6" in Yast anyways, and it seems to have kept the setting. But how can I be sure?

And does smooth scrolling have anything to do with ipv6? Because I would rather use smooth scrolling.

    Thanks.

I look forward to the features being added as time moves along... I would certainly like to change the font size on the "Bookmarks Bar", but oh well, I have a magnifying glass in the desk drawer.

Ok, so does that mean unchecking the "enable ipv6" box must have worked even though there was a warning message?

Please just tell me what is the script I type in terminal to see if ipv6 is still running.

    Thank you very much.
