Application couldn't display language other than Chinese properly

Hi everyone, I’m new to OpenSuse 11.2,
I’ve choice English as “primary language” in language configuration in Yast, and have also installed Chinese as secondary language.

In most programs Chinese displays normally, like Evolution, Firefox, Dolphin, but in VLC media player and some other applications, Chinese couldn’t be displayed properly.

Could anyone tell me what should I do to solve this problem?
Many thanks!

Hello guohouzuo,

How do you mean it isn’t displayed correctly?
Doesn’t it fit in the buttons?
Are they mixed with another language?

And could you tell us if you use KDE or GNOME?

Good luck!

Oh I’m so sorry for my mistake… in the title…i mean… the opensuse couldn’t display Chinese properly in some applications.

They are not displayed in readable letters~ in VLC media player.
I’m running KDE4 on linux~

Thanks for your help!

Hello guohouzuo,

I want to try it myself, but I found two chinese:

  • Simplified Chinese
  • Traditional Chinese

Could you tell us which one you’ve chosen?

And did this happen after you installed openSUSE or did it suddenly appear?

Good luck!

Set Chinese as the primary language in Systemsettings - Country…, check that all settings, incl. keyboard ones, point to chinese.

thank you all
have good day

if I change my primary language into Simplified Chinese, do all applications display Chinese interface instead of English?

Cause I often demo some softwares to my classmates… I study in Melbourne.

Thank you!

Hello guohouzuo,

If the application supports Chinese then it will show the text in Chinese.
But some applications don’t have a Chinese translation.

Good luck!
