Thread: connecting to exchange 2007

    Default connecting to exchange 2007

I am looking for a client to connect to exchange 2007 without installing any additional applications onto the exchange server.

I have seen that there is a Novell Evolution client which is part of the suse enterprise desktop, does anyone know if there is a build of this for opensuse 11.2?

or what else can I use to connect instead of OWA, I know I can use outlook 2003 in wine but would rather use a linux app than installing windows apps in wine.

    cheers

It's been a year since I tackled that issue at work, but AFAIK even the version of Evolution that came with openSUSE 11.1 could do that out of the box. As I read my email mainly offsite, I got the system admins to enable offsite IMAP access so even Thunderbird could do it. Alternatively, just ask for the mail to be forwarded to something like Gmail (which is what I do now).

we would like it to connect as outlook connects for calendars and mail, we would prefer to not have to open IMAP ports.

I had the same problem and did the thing below:

    Install in this order:
    o Openchange: 0.8.2-5.1
    o Samba4: 3.99.90.alpha8-2.1
    o Evolution: 2.28.0-2.5
    o Evolution Mapi: 0.28.1-3.1

Install the evolution MAPI 0.28.1 with 1-Click installation from Software.openSUSE.org (find the version from home:seife:work/openSUSE_11.2) others are not working and will make evolution crash.

Hope it works for you also

Default Connecting to Microsoft Exchange 2010

I was using Evolution (GNOME evolution 2.24.1.1) as a mail client for
    Microsoft Exchange 2003.
Now my Organization Upgraded to Microsoft Exchange 2010.
Now I am not able to configure mail in my Evolution.

I search on web but could not find the solution .
    Help is needed.

    thanks

Are you supposed/allowed to connect to the Exchange server with Linux ? If
so, you're obviously a lucky guy...I have to use XP on my company laptop.

Anyway, at one point we had IMAP configured on the server. It allowed
    'other' mail readers to connect.

While you're waiting for the update to you Exchange/Evolution connector,
maybe you can check that out. Maybe ask the admin to add it.

I was told long ago they have to purchase pop3/imap support for
Exchange, otherwise it only has its own protocol for outlook/exchange
    clients.

i've used davmail with some success.
however, it appears to rely on webdav and exchange 2007 SP2 no longer provides support for it, hence not working! it also wont work on exchange 2010 (again, no webdav). they do have future plans for exchange 2010 support though in their roadmap.

best thing about davmail is that it's middleware. davmail connects to your exchange mailbox and then acts as a proxy system for your chosen email app. so any pop3, or imap capable client can be used without specific support for exchange.

Why don't you ask the network support/admin at the firm to either install imap or to come up with a solution.
It's not ideal, but you should also be able to get them to enable outlook web mail so you can use a browser to get your mail.
