    well, my doubt is that the windows extended partition would be where the OS resides, is that allowed?
    This is an extended partition , not a windows thing ,not a linux thing , but a partitioning thing.

    It is a partition that can be accessed by windows not a windows extended

    It will not be where your OS resides. We are after all actually talking about logical inside the extended here.

    To illustrate:

    Lets say you have a room.You are only allowed 4 boxes inside the room.

    The boxes represent partitions.

    You can however put more boxes in the room by making one of the boxes a store for other boxes. But you can only store other boxes in this one box.

    These other boxes can contain information just like the 3 main boxes.

    This one box is like the extended partition
