How do i install a new font in gnome (open suse 11))

I have tried to copy the files to /usr/share/fonts/truetype but i get

Error opening file ‘/usr/share/fonts/truetype/FFF Tusj.ttf’: Permission denied

Help!..

This is because that directory is a root directory and root access is cut off by default in most linuxes.
But I thought that the gnome version has a font installer that can install fonts systemwide though, but maybe you are not using 11.2… I dont know, you didnt say what version of opensuse you have so I am taking a guess you have 11.2

You need to use sudo and if it’s got a space in the name use a \ eg;


sudo cp FFF\ Tusj.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/
sudo /usr/sbin/fonts-config
fc-cache

the second command updates the fonts cache for the syste, the secon run
as your user updates the local one.
