Search Yast for akonadi and see if there are packages missing like UI and so on.
When upgrading to KDE 4.4 did you come across the conflict questions issued by the installation process ? I remember when i upgraded KDE that i had to go over several questions regarding conflicts in versions until the process was satisfied. Perhaps you misunderstood some of those questions and did not fully install akonadi.

I’ve got the same symptoms here. All Akonadi installed and experienced no
conflicts. Perhaps the description on the Akonadi web-site I read was saying
how it’s supposed to work and not how it does?

Is this what your looking for?
I just installed libakonadiprotocolinternals-devel
I still don’t see anything in configure desktop. But I’m running KDE
4.3.5 not 4.4. Or it may require logging out and in. If it shows up
I’ll post that.
Well, this is from the “devel package” - I dont think that these files are required to just run Akonadi. Well, nevertheless I tried it (got me several megs of other devel stuff), but as proposed - no Akonadi Control Center :-(.
