The test Verify Java Version shows that I have the latest Java installed (Version 6 Update 18).
First of all, I've just found out that the Java update is a separated package(patch) in zypper, and not the update of the previously installed package. So, make sure that you have installed both java-1_6_0-sun with package type and java-1_6_0-sun with patch type.
    Code:
    S | Name | Summary | Type
    --+---------------------------------------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------+-----------
    i | java-1_6_0-sun | Java(TM) 6 Runtime Environment | package
      | java-1_6_0-sun | Java(TM) 6 Runtime Environment | srcpackage
    i | java-1_6_0-sun | java-1_6_0-sun: Update to bugfix release U18 | patch
    .
If the test is still showing that your Java is out-of-date, remove all packages referring to Java:
    Code:
    zypper rm java-1_6_0-sun java-1_6_0-sun-plugin
    and reinstall them
    Code:
    zypper in java-1_6_0-sun java-1_6_0-sun-plugin
    .
Also post the lines from the output of
    Code:
    zypper se -s java
where in the first column stays i.

    Remove all java related packages:
    Code:
    zypper rm java-1_6_0-openjdk java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin java-1_6_0-sun java-1_6_0-sun-plugin
restart your system and install just the Sun packages:
    Code:
    zypper in java-1_6_0-sun java-1_6_0-sun-plugin
    .
It's possible that the different browser-plugins - OpenJDK and Sun - making some incompatibility within Firefox, but it would be very weird and should be reported.
