Poor online video playback, BBC iPlayer

Hi All,
I previously posted about noob attempts with Google Earth
Problems with Google Earth - openSUSE Forums
and discovered my setup
3Ghz Intel p4 i386
with
RADEON X300(PCIE) and RADEON X300SE
as shown in YaST Hardware Information may not be compatible with linux/opensuse.
I’ve attempted some of the suggestions (big thanks there) and either I’ve had difficulties following instructions (noob alert!) or the solution didn’t work for another reason.
I’d appreciate any offers on improving online playback, in particular; should I get a new graphics card, what would be my best option with limited funds (<£50) when I want to be able to watch streams online smoothly but not play games/edit video. Efficient rather than powerful?

YaST software Manager says that I do have the proprietary fglrx driver 8.23 installed. When I tried to re-install files were broken and needed to be skipped.
Thanks again

Hi Richard

I use the get_iplayer application
get_iplayer | Linuxcentre

I have it packaged with instructions here:
http://public.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pAuIInWcV-jz-635-eKELihFa2-9gACCnECBzP6hm57sm2e8V97z0REEcHskiBQRjWHdlO-LWk0eqsBfQ2h53rw/get-iplayer.zip?download

Looks promising, I’m at work now. Looking forward to trying it out later. Cheers, i’ll let you know how i get on.

Hi caf,
Got home tried and failed!
Please can you repost the link to your instructions, I’m drawing a blank page from it.

get-iplayer.zip - Windows Live

If that doesn’t work

Thanks caf,
I reinstalled opensuse and opted for KDE, and so far so good, all works! Iplayer and other streams are very smooth.
I’m not used to the interface yet and having fun with some of the command lines, getting there though.
Thanks for your time.
I’m sure I’ll be needing it again.

Good to hear all is well.
