Thread: unable to burn cd isos

Default unable to burn cd isos

I am unable to burn CD isos with k3b. I can burn DVD isos fine, and it verifies them ok. But when I burn a CD iso, it says it burns successfully, but when it tries to verify it, it throws an error at the end. Here's the debugging output from k3b:

Try making sure you have k3b and k3b-codecs both from packman

    I do. The output from `rpm -qa|grep k3b` is:

    k3b-lang-1.0.5-1.pm.1.22

Question: did you try the burnt CD's? I went throught the log and it does not show any errors.
Maybe there's a bug in the verification part...

Try burning without verification. Start k3b, pick an iso, check the md5sum of the iso, burn with no verify. If it finishes without errors, create a new image from the burnt media. Open that one in k3b and see if md5sum is the same. It should be. If so, there's a bug in the verification, if not k3b is burning corrupt CD's. Report a bug then.

Yes, I tried the burn't CDs. They don't work. The md5sum differs, so I guess k3b is burning bad CDs, but I don't think the problem is k3b. I have the same problem when using bashburn and manually running cdrecord. (note: I have the same problem when I use wodim) It doesn't matter what I use to burn CDs. I always have the same problem.

Maybe start thinking it may be a hardware problem like your writer failing or something? Have you tried burning CDs in another OS like Windows (if you have it)?

I never use the k3b verification
I get no problems, but then I use quality media and like to think I know how to burn a media disc.

I don't have Windows, so I can't try it under that. I wouldn't think it would be a hardware problem, since I can burn DVD iso's just fine, just not CD iso's.

I won't be entirely sure though. I had a DVD writer which had absolutely no problems at all when burning all kind of DVDs (including images), but totally got stuck at burning CDs (frequently also got stuck at reading them too). At first I thought it was on the software side.... nada... then I upgraded its firmware thinking it may just fix it.... nada... then in the end all left to do was to just replace it. So maybe, just maybe, it could be a HW problem and it's hard for me to tell from here as there's still a certain degree of uncertainty from where I sit. When you burn these images, watch closely the output of "dmesg", which can report certain HW issues through messages it throws out. But it could be a SW problem too, although I never had such a problem with k3b and your type of problem hasn't been reported by someone else either, at least not to my knowledge.

Here's the output from manually running cdrecord:

    And here's the output from dmesg|tail -n 50:
