I can't find Wine.

Last night I installed Wine. I can’t seem to find it on my computer anywhere. I’ve checked through all the menus, right clicked on an .exe file and looked through the list of available applications to open it and used the search box on the kickoff menu.

Acording to Yast, It’s installed (see screenshot).[img=http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/th.b0df54c6f3.png]

Any suggestions?

wine is not a program you need to interact directly with (so it
doesn’t need to be in the menu), instead you just use it (like: put a
Windows program install CD in the CD caddy, and when it opens click
setup.exe), see http://en.opensuse.org/Wine for LOTS more info

I think the first time you click on an .exe you have to tell it to use wine though. So when it asks for what program to use, choose wine and then also make sure to check Remember application association for this type of file.

Take Care,

Ian

Since I know palladium doesn’t use the forums from the web, I’ll edit my post with a new response

I meant when it asks you for what program to use just type in

wine

and then remember to also check the option to Remember application association for this type of file.

Ian

i just looked and see i do have WINE installed (surprised me) but the
fact is i don’t remember why…probably to try to help someone here
(but never got to the point of trying to install some Redmond only
software, so didn’t know what you relayed)… oh, i found
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files and i see now i have it for IEs4Linux,
which was all script installed with no need to follow your info…)

get the latest source, compile from source follwoing the readme

when a new version is out simply do:
make uninstall
from the source dir.

huh? i really do wonder which question in this thread that answer was
aimed at???

Thanks for all the replies.

I got it found and working. First thing that needs to be done is to run “winecfg” from a terminal. This sets up the .wine directory in the home folder and allows you to configure sound, etc.

Then yes type “wine” in the box when asked what app to use to open the .exe file.

unfortunatly, the program I wanted to try isn’t working under wine. I wanted to give BlackBerry Desktop Manager a go. No luck yet.

do not overlook (what i understand to be excellent) info at Wine
Headquarters <http://www.winehq.org/>

you can use their custom search on blackberry and be an instant pro!
(might not make the program work, but can save a lot of trial and ERROR…

Hi
Maybe the barry application will help? I recently updated the barry
package to 0.16 ( they don’t build an openSUSE one) along with some
fixes.
