I've a similar problem and knowing the bug is not helping because the laptop is near unusable with this random freeze :-) and I'm seeking for a workaround (because the bug fix seems to be not be ready in the near future..)

    1. seems the bug arrived with the new versions of the Intel driver, and I'm curious if there is any simple way to get any old version (2.4?) of Intel video driver running on 11.2 ?..

    2. from what I saw seems the problem is coming from KMS, and one of the "acceptable" workarounds is to disable KMS on boot (simply add "nomodeset" option to the kernel command line parameters in GRUB) - but it's not clear if it helps all intel chips or some of them :-)

For the moment with "nomodeset" I did not have any freeze for 2 days now (without any degradation on the video output). After 10 days I'll probably will say it's fixed (at least by a workaround :-))

After 4 days of normal work, laptop was freezed again even with "nomodeset". So cannot be considered as the workaround, but it gives an impression to freeze less frequently. Also - when booted with "nomodeset" there is no error message at all in /var/log/messages. And another strange issue: SysRq commands are well received but have no effects.. (Alt+Sys+R, Alt+Sys+E ..)
