    Default K3b issues

I don`t know if another related topic is open, my apologies for that, but this is my problem with k3b when trying to burn an iso image (cd size):

    Code:
/usr/bin/X11/wodim: Operation not permitted. Warning: Cannot raise RLIMIT_MEMLOCK limits.scsidev: '/dev/sr0'
    or

    Code:
Cdrecord has no permission to open the device
They are one and the same, i`m just posting their different names to underline that they are the same.

My distro is open suse 11.0 / 32 bits version.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

    Hi,

Is this a new install? If so have you updated yet? If you already have, then try going to Yast>User and Group Management> Click on your profile name and select edit. Choose the Details tab and make sure cdrom is checked. Then click ok, then ok, and you should be good to go. If you haven't updated yet, I would highly suggest it as, I believe there's an update that fixes that.

    Take Care,

My user is part of the group cd-rom and has no effect, running k3b as root has the same result, even setting chmod 777 sr0 did not worked for me. I`m using kde 3.5 and i don`t know if updating k3b may work for me.

Could you tell me what make/model DVD drive you have please? Also is it SATA or IDE?

I have the exact same problem, but on openSUSE 11.2 and am interested to try and make a link and find out why this is happening.

There's about 3 or 4 of us on the forum having this problem.
    HP dv6645, Nvidia 8400m-gs, KDE 4.

What run level are you cause I notice on 11.1 if I'm in runlevel 3 and I type startx then when x has started if I run k3b I get the same permission denied error, however if I start k3b while in runlevel 5 then it works, this is on SuSe 11.1.

Unfortunately a recent update has caused k3b to stop working, it now freezes the computer to the point where one can't even ssh in to issue a shutdown command. I was wondering if anyone else was also now having trouble with k3b stopping working this week.

Sorry my Bad. I didn't back check.

Do an unconditional update in Packman
    This is the principle
Yast - Software Management -Update All_HowTo - openSUSE Forums

Your Packman repo must have the highest priority (that's the lowest number) in your repo list
