Thread: Xterm hangs frequently

    Default Xterm hangs frequently

    Hi everyone,

I found very annoying problem using xterm (I am not sure for other terminals).
When I edit my program using vim and xterm, it was frequently frozen. There were two solution for this. 1) wait until it works, and 2) (weird solution) type anything to other applications, firefox, other xterm, or whatever. Then the frozen terminal works again.

What is the problem and what is the permanent solution for this?

    SUSE 11.2
    KDE 4.3.1

*strange*...hmmmm, the permanent solution is probably to file a bug
report so it can get fixed, see

in the meantime you might wanna see if konsole, gnome-terminal, or
Terminal (and, there are others too) have the same problem..

if so i'd guess you have something wrong in your bashrc rather than a
    problem with xterm

WAIT! i just now see your "Klipper doesn't work correctly" post and in
it you say "Previously I used SUSE 10.2" and i wonder how you moved
from 10.2 to 11.2....because if you tried to "upgrade" without doing a
system format and clean install there is no way to tell what kind of
stuff you left laying around that is messing up your 11.2 install's
    klipper and/or xterm..

there *is* a reason that says "Starting
with openSUSE 11.2, a live upgrade from the prior version of openSUSE
11.1 is officially supported. This allows one to perform a complete
operating system update in place, without reloading everything from
scratch. For versions prior to 11.2 see Upgrade/Unsupported." and that
referenced 'unsupported' blurb says to format, etc...
