Thread: updatedb hangs when "/net" in auto.master is enabled

Default updatedb hangs when "/net" in auto.master is enabled

After enabling autofs and uncommenting "/net" in /etc/auto.master, I discovered with the help of strace, that /etc/cron.daily/suse.de-updatedb hangs forever waiting for a file named like my DSL gateway. As workaround I added "/net" to UPDATEDB_PRUNEPATHS in /etc/sysconfig/locate.

Is this a bug or a feature?

    Regards

    Michael

In the sense that updatedb indexes everything it can find including devices plugged into your USB, it is a feature. If you don't want it to do that, maybe it's a bug.

On my dual-boot machine it's often much quicker at locating a file on my Windows partition than booting Windows and looking for it that way.
