[openSuse 11.2] KDE 4 -> KDE 3.5

Hello. How do i replace KDE 4 by KDE 3.5 on openSUSE 11.2? it’s everything good in this version but KDE 4 (IMHO), especially on my netbook…
Thanks.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English…

If you don’t like kde4
My advice use Gnome

I’m Qt developer and I prefer KDE instead Gnome… I like KDE, but only 3.5…

There is this thread
How-To: Install KDE 3.5 with OpenSUSE 11.2 - openSUSE Forums

But I don’t recommend it!

kde3 is no longer supported in 11.2

You could install 11.1

Thanks, 'll try =)

If you decide to try KDE3 in 11.1, there is an excellent liveCD here: Carlos Gonçalves: Unofficial KDE 3.5 Live CD for openSUSE 11.1

And what morons decided that KDE4 only is acceptable? Please… tell me… so I can sends thanks personally KDE 4 is an ABORTION. The lack of KDE3 in 11.2 is the reason OPenSuSE may stop being my distro of choice for all my clients. If you want to force KDE 4, then allow people the ability to configure their desktop THE SAME AS KDE3… without the idiot idea of everything going in that desktop square… without the idiot idea of not being able to add applications to the panel. OH… did I say a HATE KDE4?

@digihorse
Take your grievances elsewhere please.
There are threads in the soapbox about this. This section is for help; :slight_smile:

You can come close to KDE3 appearance by selecting desktop view settings ->
folder view from either the widget or rt. mouse button on the desktop. The
folder view uses the entire desktop just like KDE3. Now close that
annoying floating folder and see if you like it better. I’m not impressed,
but I’m making an effort to see if I can figure out a way to use it for
clients w/o the massive re-training that the default setup would require.

I agree with you that a blanket KDE3 look and feel would be useful but the
folder view selection is about as close as I’ve come to date.

Will Honea

i am a newbie to opensuse.
i have windows OS installed on my machine
i tried to install opensuse 11.2 KDE4 liveCD.
in the middle of the installation i get some lines repeating that reads something as follows
“init id6: swapping too fast disabled for 5 minutes”

and then it again prints some lines and prints the same line
the installation does not proceed.
can anybody help me out

If you google it

init id6: swapping too fast disabled for 5 minutes - Google Search

The problem he gets the message during installation. How do you comment out lines in a file on installation media?

@tashuu. You’d be better off starting a new thread with appropriate title in the Install/Boot/Login section of the forum as it’ll get more attention than being hidden in a thread about a completely different topic.

You need to either do as suggested and start a new thread or give more to the point detail. In both cases, tell us where you actually get to in the install.
