Unhappy Emerald Window Manager does not start

I am running OpenSuse 11.2 and gnome 2.28, all up to date with the emerald window manager. I have tried running emerald --replace. All that has happened is that now when I login, I dont have a window manager and I am forced to open a terminal and re-run emerald --replace to get one.

I have read many messages relating to how to fix this, most refer to outdated compiz, opensuse and unbuntu installations and dont seem to apply to my installation. Where possible I have to execute the instructions that seem to match - to no avail.

This cant be rocket science but it is a shame that after so much effort we still dont seem to be able to get this together.

How does compiz find its window manager and why does it not fire up emerald?

    Hi,

First, could you please open up a terminal and provide the output of:

    Code:
    rpm -qa --last "*compiz*"
Just to make sure all your packages are correct.

Also how did you download and install compiz?

    Take Care,

    Ian
