    Default Remove Userlist From GDM?

    Hi All

I install 11.2 64bit and I need to remove the list of users at the login prompt of GDM. I looked though yast2 and there is no configuration section for GDM. Is the an official method for having just a simple prompt for username and password?

    Hi
Use gconf-editor and under apps/gdm/simple-greeter check the box
    'disable_user_list'

    Hi There

I tried changing this setting and restarted. It didn't change the existence of the list. I also had another user try it and it didn't work for them either. Our IT folks don't want the user list because of security issues. Can I use a different login manager?

Also, I found this on google. Perhaps it is a similar issue but that setting change doesn't work on Ubuntu either.

    Hi
    Little different for openSUSE (command all on one line);
    Code:
    sudo gconftool-2 --set
    --type=bool /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_user_list true

    Hi Again

Thanks for getting back to me. That still didn't work and I have confirmed that disable_user_list is set to true after rebooting. I am guessing there is some problem similar to the new ubuntu. Nobody can seem to get rid of the user list.

I my case, I have to get rid of it. Is the a replacement login manager?

    Hi
Strange, works fine for me.... 11.2, SLES11 and SLED11. Didn't have to
reboot, just logout and no list.

    You could use xdm.

I will try to confirm with another group in our lab that I know updated to 11.2 and get back. Strange that I can't get it to work on either machine and a colleague down the hall has the same issue.

I'll get back to this thread.

    Try SLiM.

I've just checked and I also can't disable user list.

    OK,

I checked with two other users in my lab and they cannot make the User List go away in GDM. I am not sure where to look but this must be an issue for the GDM development people since it is occuring for both SUSE 11.2 and the new Ubuntu.
