Unhappy Kate: bracket matching and highlighting not working

    Hello,

I am confused about openSUSE's kate (using openSUSE 11.2 and KDE 4.3.1). First, when the cursor is at a bracket, it does not highlight that bracket or the matching one.

Also, the highlighting is poor: e.g., for an R script, commands (e.g, "length", "get", etc) are not displayed in bold.

Both things work correctly in my other computer with Kubuntu.

Any help? Thank you very much in advance.

Did you store the file yet with the proper extension? A lot of functionality is only available after the filetype is known to Kate.

Also note that the bracket highlighting by default is using a very low contrast color (#EEEDEC) in Kwrite and I assume it's the same for Kate, if you're using a TFT (flatscreen) monitor with a TN-Panel (the <$500 type of monitor) then it might be that you just don't see it. Dig around in the options and change it another color (with better contrast).

    Thank you.

Yes, the extension is ".R", and dolphin recognises it as "plain text" (the same as in Kubuntu). Kate looks to recognise it OK, because, in tools, "mode" and "highlighting" are automatically set as "R script".
