what do you mean?
switch what buttons? (what do they look like? what do they do?)

switch the buttons from what to what? (red to blue? sorted by
ascending to descending? square to round? what?)

what is a “Gnome window list”? (it list windows, or does it list
desktops?)

what do you do with the ‘Gnome window list’? (close windows, as in
application windows)

like how do you open the “Gnome window list” and what do you see when
you do: “windows” like Firefox, Nautilus, OpenOffice.org and
etc…and, you click on a square, red button to make Firefox jump to
full screen…or what?

were you ever able to “switch the buttons” and suddenly you can’t? did
you recently update via YaST?

sorry, i can’t help until i understand the question…

by the way, which version of openSUSE are you using?

i’m sorry, i was interrupted and must’ve submitted accidently

@see](http://library.gnome.org/users/user-guide/stable/windowlist.html.en)

its the default panel applet for selecting windows. its a list of buttons of the current windows in the panel and when you click on them, the window pops up

switch the buttons from what to what? (red to blue? sorted by
ascending to descending? square to round? what?)

i want to re-order the window list, thus moving a window button to the left or right. i wanna press a button, keep it pressed and move the button to the left or right.

were you ever able to “switch the buttons” and suddenly you can’t?

in each and every version of gnome until the one delivered with openSuse 11.2

ok, i see where it says (on page you referenced) “You can change the
order of the Window List buttons by dragging a button to a different
location on the Window List.”

so, you should be able to do it…i wonder if any other 11.2 Gnome
user is also having this problem ??

and, wonder what graphic card/chip you have, and if any/all others
with this problem use the same…

and, i wonder if you disable “desktop effects” if you will then be
able to move the buttons around…

(i’m thinking you have found a bug, that may be graphics chip specific)

palladium

yes, sometimes my english is a bit limited. :expressionless:

i’ve now checked my (stone old) laptop, same there

i have an Radeon LW in my laptop (doesn’t state anything else) and an NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GT with Nvidia drivers here

checked, even restarted X11, doesn’t change anything.

so, it sounds like you have found a real bug, your next stop should be
here: http://en.opensuse.org/Submitting_Bug_Reports

where the first step is to search the list of bugs to see if yours is
already reported…

palladium

it’s there since RC2:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=553326

ah…since the coder thinks nothing has changed (“I’m 99.9% sure
nothing changed in this area, so there’s no reason for this
to not work”) you need to add a reply to that bug report…because,
obviously something has gone wrong, somewhere…

now we play the waiting game :\

Hi
Do you have desktop effects enabled? If so disable and see if it’s
working.

as i stated, this does not help at all :frowning:

Hi
If i disable effects on my netbook (11.2 Gnome) I can move windows,
change them to different desktops…

With desktop effects I can click on an item and reorder on the list
without problems.

All of the preference options appear to work for me as long as they are
on the same desktop, if effects are disabled then I can move the
windows to other desktops.

how can i debug this?

Hi
I would first try without any desktop effects, remove the switcher,
logout, logback in and replace the switcher to the panel and test.

did not help at all. neither on my laptop, nor on my desktop machine. since both use different drivers, i’m unable to track this down to a driver.
