For some reason .docx looks like an ark file?

Even though the file association is with OpenOffice Writer,
if I click it it opens in OpenOffice, but the filetype icon
is totally off showing as a compressed file (ark icon)

GofBorg, where is your problem with the icon? It is shown because it is in gfact just a compressed file. Unpack it to see what’s inside.

Logically, if a .docx file is shown as compressed because it is, so should an .odt file. I think this is an artifact of KDE decisions; for example, KMyMoney data files also show as compressed files, which they are.

It looks as if someone has made a decision to exclude .odt etc.

Well, to me .docx means MS Office file, so I guess in my mind if I associate
it with OpenOffice and OpenOffice opens it then I’d like to see and
OpenOffice icon. I can see a situation where a business may have a slew of
…docx files and I don’t see the value of using a zip file icon which to me
being a longtimer means .zip, .rar, tar.gz etc…
I guess it’s just my way of looking at it.

Seems like a case where righteous indignation of the ‘true’ nature of the
universe has gotten in the way. All I want is consistency. I don’t care that
…docx is a myriad compilation of xml crapola that somehow cobbles together
a document. The result is a document. If I associate it with OpenOffice,
the icon should reflect my association, but I guess this will have to move
on into soapbox.

You don’t have to move on to soapbox, but if you want to…
Open up Konqueror –> settings –> and change the filetype icon for docx to one that fits your clothes.

Thanks.
