    Default Suspend to disk fails

    I'm running 11.2 on a Dell Latitude D630. Everything works fine, except suspend to disk. Suspend to RAM works fine.

    When I run powersave -U, I get the following error message:

    method return sender=:1.0 -> dest=:1.999 reply_serial=2
    int32 1

    Has anybody encountered a similar problem? How can I get suspend to disk to work?

    I ran pm-hibernate from the command line and had a look at /var/log/pm-suspend.log. The problematic bit seems to be this:

    ===== 2009-11-23 09:26:48.921770058 running hook: /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/30s2disk-check =====
    INFO: checking for suspend-to-disk prerequisites...
    ERROR: no resume parameter on kernel commandline, can not suspend
    WARNING: /var/run/pm-utils.inhibit will be created to prevent suspending!

    Make sure your /boot/grub/menu.lst entry contains the resume parameter, and points to your swap partition (in my case /dev/sda5), similar to this:

    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.25.20-0.5-pae root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_TOSHIBA_MK8032G_X5CX6959T-part6 splash=silent showopts resume=/dev/sda5 vga=0x317
    initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.25.20-0.5-pae
    You will need to edit this file as root, so take care. A good idea to make a backup of it first with something like
    cp /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.working

    Question Re: Suspend to disk fails - new problem

    Hi there, when I run powersave -U I get a similar message:
    method return sender=:1.0 -> dest=:1.108 reply_serial=2
    int32 1

    but i can't do the command pm-hibernate, i don't have it.

    Any clues on how to fix it? I had a look at my menu.lst file but my other laptop has a pretty similar conifguration and it doesn't have any problems. Besides, I wouldn't know where to put that resume line in anyway.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ben

    Thumbs up Re: Suspend to disk fails - it's all good

    No worries, read a little closer and there was a crucial error, i think because i was using a usb stick as swap when I installed. Corrected the resume line and it works fine!
