Default KlamAV - "Scan this file/device" in mousemenu?

This is supposed to be a quick read: How is it possible to add a "scan this file/device" to the mouse menu when right clicking with the mouse? Thanks for your comments.

Well, someone with the knowledge, I wonder about this too. As there is now version of klamav for kde4 there is not really any good antivir integration/sollution on the kde4 desktop, and antivir is causing me troubles.

    Cheers

Well, I suppose it is more my lack of effort than Avira's fault, but I have never succeeded in retrieving the virusdb when I have installed it through yast. Allways it complains of missing registration (file?), which I have understood it should retrieve automatically. I have earlier downloaded and installed Antivir from Avira which went allright, I used it for sometime then. However, this option is not possible anymore if one want to have gui, and I do. And there is another issue, if I should choose the OpenSuSE Antivir. I get the gui only if I install Dazuko. If so I have to build my own Dazuko module, at least if I shold have it work, as I have a modified kernel. And finally, there are supposedly conflicts between Dazuko and Apparmor.
All in all, to much hassle, plus I get confused and uncertain whether I do some drastically security risks
I don't know theese security things, but Klamav is very easy and I (at least I believe so) need a scanner as I am in constant contact with a machine running XP. Preferably one with a gui.

    Cheers

well, it seems you have Clam running ok, and that is *more* than
enough as all the XP machines in the world are not likely to infect
    your machine anyway..

i've been using Linux for almost ten years and never run any program
for the purpose of cleaning my machine or mail of Window's virus...it
just has not been a problem for me...my Windows using friends are
always infecting each other...but never me..

    @TheMask -

    A few thoughts . . .

First, I seem to recall that KlamAV (it's been a long time since I used the app) has an option to scan any file when it is opened. That may be the simplest approach.

Second, if you are trying to scan Windows files specifically (e.g., .exe) then you might be able to add a mime-type in File Associations for this file extension and consequently have it listed under "Open with . . . " in Konqueror or Dolphin. For a file already having a mime-type (e.g., .txt) you can add KlamAV to the already existing associated apps list.

Third, you can create your own execution call which will be listed in the context menu under "Actions". This is done using
.desktop files inside the ServiceMenus directory. You can find those directories with:

    Code:
    kde4config --path services
And here is one howto, there are others on the web (google is your friend):

Development/Tutorials/Creating Konqueror Service Menus - KDE TechBase

This refs Konqueror, but Dolphin uses the same servicemenus.

Note that a servicemenu ordinarily uses a mime-type. However, it is possible to use your own executable or even call a script; that is beyond the tutorial linked above, if you want to do that, you'll need to do more research.

Well it was just that I do not want to infect the windows machine, I was not concerned of the opposite.

Thanks for your answer, mingus725. To associate the files additionally with KlamAV is not a good idea.
I meant to just create a small menu entry for KlamAV in means of right-clicking on a drive/file and push "Scan This!".
As soon as I receive a HDD Im usually scanning it within my systems. A menu entry would be a much more comfortable than opening KlamAV each time something gets popped in.

WTF? How would you possibly infect a windows machine (which is a vorus in itself) with a Linux system? Find me a Virus to be executed on Linux that spreads to a windows machine!

By passing an infected file e.g. via samba or a shared write partition.
