Don't remove it - you'll need safe mode eventually.

    Open a terminal, and run

    Code:
    su -
    cp /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.bak
to make a backup of your menu file. Then, depending on whether you're using gnome or KDE, run

    Code:
    gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
    or

    Code:
    kwrite /boot/grub/menu.lst
And change the 'timeout' variable to the number of seconds you want.

    thanks for both posts.

    Starting from the first.

    su - no problems here
    logged in as superuser
    cp /boot/grub/menu.1st /boot/grub/menu.bak

returns cp: cannot stat '/boot/grub/menu.1st': no such file or directory

retyped and I definatly got it right.

If I navigate I the windows envirnment I can see the file but not copy it.

    Skipping the backup...

I get an error occured about configuration. I cant read much more and it disappears.

Anyway the gedit comes up blank.

    ideas?

    menu.lst

copy and paste it's a L lower case not number 1 one.

It's the code wrap makes it look that way

    Code:
    menu.lst

Has anyone ever started a petition to change the monospace font so the 'l's don't look like '1's any more?
