    Default OpenOffice and Opensuse 11.2

    Hi,

I have a problem with OpenOffice and Opensuse 11.2 (32 bit). OpenOffice has a problems with the extensions. When I try to install an extension directly from the web using Firefox it crashs (but I can install extension after downloading and installing manually). When I try to export a drawing (OpenOffice uses then the EnhancedGraphicExportDialogs.oxt plugin) it crashs.
When I integrate a reference using Zotero, it works, but when I try to change a reference or create the bibliography OpenOffice crashs.
I also tried the OpenOffice which came with Opensuse and the slightly newer version in the repository.
I also tried to minimize Java confusion and installed only the original Java 1.6. from Sun.

Can somebody help to get OpenOffice running (or preventing crashing)?

    Greetings

    Michael

    Hi,

now I tried also the OpenOffice unstable repository.
    Here are the same problems:
extension manager check update > crash
    Zotero adding bibliography > crash
extension manager add extesions by Firefox > crash

one thing is working with the OpenOffice unstable version: export of graphics! This was not working with OpenOffice 3.1.1 of Opensuse 11.2

Does somebody know it's possible to replace the OpenOffice version of 11.2 with the version from the 11.1? Adding the 11.1 openoffice repositories was not succesful, because of a conflict with one library (libicuuc.so.40).

    Greetings

    Michael

    Hi,

after trying the unstable repository and reinstalling of OpenOffice from the stable repository OpenOffice directly chrashs from the start. I reinstalled OpenSuse 11.2.
But I still have the problems with the extensions or export of graphics.

I'am a little bit distressed because I have to (and will) work with OpenOffice.

Is there somebody outside where the extensions (adding, checking updates...) or the export of graphics is working?

    Greetings

    Michael

    Michael:

I have tried to install this extension into my OpenOffice:

Sun PDF Import Extension | OpenOffice.org repository for Extensions

It downloaded through firefox, a message in OpenOffice came up to ask me whether I really wanted to install the extension, and even before I could click on "yes", it crashed.

If you have the same phonomenon, we can shake hands.

As for my problem, I am going to kick OO 3.1.1 and install 3.0.0.4 later today. Hold your thumbs that it works then.

    Hello,

    thanks for your answer!
When you made the installing of the older OO version, I would be pleased to know if this worked (and how the installation worked).

    Addition:

    I removed the OpenOffice KDE4 package .
The normal export of graphics is now possible!
The manually adding of extensions is possible (but not directly using Firefox nor check updates) and they are working .
Insert graphics (like jpg) works now fast (no waiting in the KDE4 menues).

    Greetings

    Michael:

I have fixed the problem, however not by installing an older version of OO.

It seems that SCIM caused the crash. Removing SCIM and replacing it with SKIM seems to fix quite a number of problems.

    Happy computing!

    Hello Klugbeisser,

Either SCIM nor SKIM is installed in my case.
I will try to install SKIM (normally I don't chinese language support ) and tell you the result.

    Greetings

    Dear Michael,

do it if it is for your own interest. SCIM/SKIM can sometimes be problematic as this software is lacking developers to maintain it.

On my side, everything behaves as expected now, please don't cause trouble to yourself because of me.

    Have a nice afternoon,

You do realise that when you install Skim that scim remains installed as a dependency.

Skim/Scim does have its own Opensuse maintainers who are usually very good at respondign to reported bugs via bugzilla. Just make sure you confirm it is a bug before submitting.

As fo rme - I am strugglign with getting Skim/Scm to work at all in Openoffice latest release on Opensuse - but that's another issue entirely
