    Default 11.2 Suspend to RAM/Disc crashes

    I just upgraded my AMD64 Phenom X3 on Asus M3A76-CM mobo from OpenSuSE 11.1 to OpenSuSE 11.2. The upgrade didn't go smooth, but it went through after some glitches. I posted this from the system running OpenSuSE 11.2. The problems I have encountered are the system crashed when I tried to Suspend to RAM and/or Disc. The display just showed the Penguin sideway with the bar went down to about 85%.

    BTW, why shows a Penguin sideway when the system is suspended to RAM/Disc? If one wants to show a Penguin sleeps, it should be standing and not laid sideway.

    I'm Running openSUSE 11.2 on a Dell i7 Core based Studio Desktop.

    Running the menu option "Suspend to RAM" blackens the screen but does not suspend. It turns out that it has just locked the screen.

    I then tried
    /usr/sbin/s2ram -f -p -s

    directly. It suspended straight away, but pressing the power button turned the computer back on, but the screen remained blank. I had to power off and reboot.

    /var/log/messages contains the following from the time I attempted to wake up:

    Ok, I encountered the same issue here, when trying to suspend to disk the progress bar sticks around 85% percent.

    First thing I did is disabling the the suspend/hibernate splash by adding the following line to /etc/suspend.conf:
    splash = n

    This is a list of things I've tried an the result.
    As normal user
    $ powersave -U -> doesn't work

    As root:
    # powersave -U -> doesn't work
    # pm-hibernate -> doesn't work
    # s2disk --config /var/lib/s2disk.conf -> does work

    Each time it doesn't work the following message is shown:

    After having a closer look at what the pm-utils package does I was able to get it working.

    When hibernating pm-hibernate triggers all the scripts in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d

    Some of these scripts are causing trouble. So I moved them out of the directory with the following commands::

    # cd /usr/lib/pm-utils
    # mv sleep.d/06autofs .
    # mv sleep.d/45pcmcia .
    # mv sleep.d/80videobios .
    Let me know if it works for you.

    This also fixed my suspend to ram problem (and is probably a 'nicer' solution than the one mentioned before)

    Works for me for both suspend to RAM and disk, thanks.

    1st time the horizonal penguin has appeared.

    Can I expect any functional losses due to these changes.

    Using,
    opensuse 11.2, x86_64, kde 4.33, AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 940 Processor.

    This also worked for me on my HP 8530p. (openSUSE11.2-x86_64)
    My suspend to disk works now!
    Now I need to get suspend to ram working.......

    Unfortunately, none of the above works on my AMD64 Phenom X3 running on OpenSuSE v11.2.

    I had similar issue where suspend to disk stopped to work after some time.
    What I found was that the suspend lock file /.suspended was created but empty so simply removing the file made suspend to disk work again

    I noticed the /.suspended file too; however, removing the /.suspended file doesn't fix the issue, unfortunately.

    Thanks pietervi for the useful hints about the suspend problem solution. I came across suspend issue on my Thinkpad T41 after moving into 11.2.

    I have pinned down the suspend problem to the script /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/45pcmcia. Precisely, to a line that ejects PCMCIA cards: /sbin/pccardctl eject.

    I simply commented that line out, and RAM/disk suspend worked flawlessly. Did not have to move out any scripts.

    Hopefully that works for you.
