    Default Partition strategy - 20GB

    Hi all,

I am new to Linux and hoping to install openSuse and test it out.

I have 20GB in extended partition set aside to be used for Linux installation.

I was hoping if someone can help out in terms of partitioning strategy for this 20GB and how to split it over /; /usr etc etc.

    Appreciate any help.

    cheers

    20GB is not much
I use 20 GB just for my /

    I guess you could do
    512MB swap
    7GB /
    all remainder /home
    Tumbleweed_KDE

Don't. Put everything into one and enjoy. Maybe keep 1 GB MB for a swap
    partition.

Creating partitions for / /usr, ... is BS for a test setup. And actually for
    most setup's.

Try it. If you like it, and you want to set up a bigger one, just create:
    - swap
    - system (/)
    - your data (/home)

That way, you can crash you system, change it, reinstall it... without
    loosing your data/preferences.

I'd just accept the suggestion the installer makes, it tends to make sensible suggestions, if given enough room it will suggest 20GB for root, but it will give a lower suggestion if all you have is 20GB.

I agree with Axeia; I have openSUSE on a dual boot machine with only 17G for openSUSE and the installer has never had any problem making the allocation sensibly.
