Thread: eDirectory running on openSUSE

    Default eDirectory running on openSUSE

    Hello Everyone,

Can eDirectory run on openSUSE, preferably the latest versions?

I'm far less concerned about whether it is officially supported by
Novell and more concerned if it will work.

    Thanks.

In theory, sure. In reality? Nobody tries it officially and I've not
heard somebody post back about an attempt for a while.

Any particular reason you do not just use SLES? It will definitely work
(regardless of the version you use) and an evaluation installs almost as
    quickly as OpenSUSE 11.1.

    Good luck.

Money. I want this for a proof of concept so that the company will buy into SLES/OES/eDirectory. I want to be able to stick my foot in the door. Talking will not get it. I need this thing up and running for a while and then show it off.

The evaluation period for SLES will probably not be long enough for me to get the hooks in.

And, I have paid for a legal copy of OES/SLES at home, but company policy won't allow me to pay for software and install it here.

I am dancing with the typical political stuff, <rant> and it seems that Novell, et. al. have a hard time letting others help them </rant>.

I need help for the mutual benefit.

Fair enough, but keep in mind that the "evaluation" doesn't stop working
(I run evaluations 24x7). The 'Activation' you can get is specifically
only for updates (which timeout after the "evaluation period" unless you
purchase that) but SLES will run forever.

Hopefully somebody here has tried it but if not, and if you have an
OpenSUSE system, installing eDirectory should take about five minutes
    after download.

    Good luck.

Thanks a lot, Aaron. All good ideas. At least it's not a dead end yet.
