Default How to connect to the Internet in OpenSuse 11.1

    Hi,
I just finished installing opensuse and played around with it a bit. Really nice!

But I'm stuck with one important thing, and that's connecting to the internet.
In windows XP I'd do this.
1)Right click on Local Network Connection
2)Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then enter
    IP address 192.168.1.59
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

    Preferred DNS Server: 208.67.222.222
    Alternate DNS Server: 208.67.220.220

Thing is, how is this done in OpenSuse? where do i put in all that's above. I just cant figure out after almost 2 hours of trying and restarting.

    My card shows as RTL8139.

Everything else works fine, except for this.

Could someone please help me with these things step by step

    Thanks
    Norman

PS: I don't use a password to go online in winXp. I just turn on the modem and once its connected i can start browsing in winXp.

Did you try going to Yast - Network Devices - networksettings

eth0 should be set to your RTL8139
Just go through it and OK at the end.

    Does that help?

Did you get everything entered? Can you ping by IP address? Post the
    output from these commands, please:

    ip addr
    ip route
    cat /etc/resolv.conf

You should be able to configure your network stuff within Yast though you
obviously must do more than click 'Next/Finish' over and over again. The
DNS stuff and Routing information along with IP/subnet information must be
entered, but that's all pretty obvious.

    sudo /sbin/yast firewall

    Good luck.

These screenshots might help, although they're from openSUSE 11.0 I think, but you'll get the picture from them (oh no -- what a bad pun!).

I finally figured where I was going wrong. I was leaving out the Default Gateway value.
The Default Gateway value appears in a separate tab, so I kept missing it. In Windows, it appears in the same tab.
    So now everything works fine
I'm typing this reply using Konqueror running on OpenSuse 11.1
Thanks to all of you for posting advice and helping me get this sorted out.
    Many Thanks
And OpenSuse is definitely better than Ubuntu, which I installed on Sunday and gave up on Monday
    Thanks
