    Default Printing from Windows XP to a printer connected to Linux

    Hallo to all,

    I could not find a description how to connect a printer that works with Linux LPD to WinXP. The printer does not work with my new computer, so I connected it to a SuSE-Linux router. It prints from Linux.

    The first question is: Ist it possible to print from WinXP to Linux without CUPS? What I found is based on CUPS.

    Samba is runing and Windows can see the printer but not connect. A description how to would be nice.

    Best greetings
    Peter

    Here's how to print to a Linux server using IPP protocol

    and here's how to print to a Linux server using SMB protocol

    Both of those seem to have cups in the mixture. I don't know how to print in Linux without cups. Hopefully some others will answer that.

    Peter;

    Methods other than CUPS for Samba Printing are covered in the Samba-3 Official
    Howto:
    http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/...lprinting.html

    Since CUPS is the default printing method for OpenSUSE, why are you trying to
    avoid CUPS?
