    Default Installing problem-deleting partition

Note: I'm a begginer in terms of linux.

Since I have decided to install Opensuse on my PC I reinstalled Windows , formated everything.I had and made 3 new partitions.C:windows (30gb) D:Linux(48gb) and the other hdd as one partition(80gb).Now...here's my problem.I'm trying to install Opensuse(dvd) but I stop at the "Setting up your disk" part.I want it to be installed in D instead of modifying or maybe deleting C, but I really don't know how to do that.Searched on google, found something about formatting C.I did that using "Smart defrag" since the default windows soft for formatting sucks. But I encounter the same problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    see if this is helpful:

routinely, the DVD's install script will "see" the existing
Windows[tm] partition and _offer_ to 1) install openSUSE in unused
space and 2) set up the dual boot..

i think if you will do some reading and can get a grip on the way
Linux 'sees' hard drives (not as C, D, E or etc, but as hda [or sda,
depending on the kind of drive] is hard drive number one and hdb/sdb
is hard drive number two....and, hda1 will probably be the partition
your Windows[tm] calls C, and hda2 will be what you are calling D
which Linux will 'see' as the second partition on the first drive, and
the second drive will be s/hdb1 and about 80GB

and, i think it will probably offer to install into that 48GB
partition three bits: root, swap and /home

HOWEVER, it might 'see' the second drive as the best place and _offer_
to install those three bits to either hdb or sdb...

Ok, so my main HDD is divided in sda1(as C) and sda2(as D).The installer suggests me to shrink the windows partition to 39gb.(My hdd has 80gb).This is written in red.I have already defragmented my disk.Even so, Shall I be worried about the Windows being deleted?

that does not make sense, considering you said in your first post that
C is 30GB, so how can it be decreased to 39?

and, it is not telling you to shrink it, but that it will shrink
    it...but ??

worry? i don't know...thousands and thousands have done it with no
problem...however, it is *always* prudent to have a backup of all your
photos, music, documents etc etc etc..

After 3 days , I finally managed to install OpenSuse. My boot screen was modified a little.I'm confused about that boot screen. It shows me Opensuse 11.1 and windows 1 , windows 2 and windows 3.It's not like it isn't working but...

Now I'm troubled by the internet connection setup.I have a DSL type.I added it...user & password but I just don't know how to connect it.I'll do more search.

Thanks for all your help palladium.

look at that link to the noob thread i gave you...several things there
you ought to take advantage of....and, see the official startup guide here
    http://www.novell.com/documentation/...0_startup.html

    -welcome-
my best advice: go slowly....live with what you have for a few days
and make changes slowly with a clear path to retreat to the
    used-to-work state...

    use root powers VERY carefully..
