Default Will OpenSUSE 11.2 drop old ATI support?

Does anyone know if OpenSUSE will drop support for old ATI video cards like Ubuntu did this year? Last year ATI dropped support in Linux for the ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 128 PRO video card so now I can't use 1280x1024 with Ubuntu?

OpenSUSE 11.1 still does 1280x1024 with my old video card. I hope OpenSUSE 11.2 will also but I don't know if 11.2 will drop support like Ubuntu did.

    Thanks for any help.

I installed 11.2M8 and got a problem with my ATI card (R515&radeonhd). Max resolution is 1024x768 on my 19''monitor now. Why? When I used 10.2-11.1, the resolution was 1280x1024,24.
Is this problem in dropping of old ATI support?

I don't know if the problem with your resolution is because of a new Catalyst or not because I haven't seen anything about OpenSUSE dropping support for anything. OpenSUSE 10 and 11.1 work with my old card but the problem you're having may well be from Catalyst 9.4.

The only other distros I've found so far that still support my old card are PCLOS, MEPIS and Puppy. I've already replaced Ubuntu with MEPIS. I'd hate to have to replace OpenSUSE with a different distro.

Thanks a lot for your information. My video card works with open driver "radeonhd" now. Yes, AMD doesn't support it because this card is too old in their opinion.
But I found next info in news list today: "xf86-video-radeonhd 1.3.0 Driver Released on October 09, 2009". I want to try this driver in my openSUSE 11.2 M8. If this software will not help me I'll need to decide what is better - to replace this distro or my video card. Goodbye, SUSE - one of sad days in my life.

Well you could think about keeping 11.1 until you can get a new video card. Or if you really need to change distros PCLOS is pretty good.

I think I'll end up with PCLOS and MEPIS.

Yes, I'll be on 11.2 to make experiments with drivers and simultaneously I'll search for a new suitable distro for my hardware. Maybe my choice will stop on PCLOS or MEPIS and Puppy. Thank you for your help.
I use SUSE some years and don't want to leave this distro. But I probably should make this step.
