Default newbie: package install precedence (Internet > DVD)

Don't know why YaST2 always asking for DVD instead of getting from certain web repo.

In uBuntu I used installation only once.

    What's the hit?

    Thanks,

You can disable the dvd in yast2-software repositories

Since the DVD always has significantly more programs on it than a CD and only normally installs a minority of them, it makes sense to avoid wasting bandwidth by using it to install other programs that YaST knows are there. But if you prefer to use the Internet, the option to take it out of your repository list is there.

As has been said so many times, it's all about choice.

Combine the best of both worlds: put an ISO of the DVD on your machine, and
add it as a repo. You get to use the DVD's content without the need to
    insert it each time.

Didn't find how to disable the DVD as a repo in YaST2, I guess I'll just take the .iso solution for now.

    It is there...

    YaST -> Software repositories

Presents a list. One item on said list will not list an http address (not sure what it actually says - I've deleted mine because I never use it).

Select it, and either uncheck the 'enabled' box, delete it, or set the priority to a higher number.

Which, confusingly, means lower priority. Seriously, who came up with that? I suppose maybe it makes more sense in German or something?...

Cool Re: newbie: package install precedence (Internet > DVD)

Got it by setting priority to 101, all other sources are <100.

    Thank you very much.!!!!

I'm fine with 0 indexing priority, since I'm a hardware guy.

No worries - yeah, after I wrote that I realised it's dumb.

Lots of unixy things prioritise that way don't they. No need to blame the Germans.
