Default Oddities in 11.1 not there in 10.1

I have just added a Suse 11.1 partition to my computer, which also houses my former Suse 10.1 partition. However, several things keep occuring that suggest that, rather than improving on 10.1, 11.1 appears to actually have gone backwards. This may be because I haven't correctly adjusted something or it might be down to instability in 11.1.
    Any fixes gratefully received.

1.Upon booting, I get my desktop, but Firefox (whose homepage is currently that of OpenSuse!) automatically opens without being asked to do so. This was not the case with 10.1. Frankly, I don't always need the Internet!
2.In 10.1, upon opening Evolution, it would automatically search for new mail. The version in 11.1 has to be asked to do so. Is there an easy tweak to make it look automatically upon opening?
3.I am using a Verbatim external hard drive on which to backup information. However, under 11.1 I cannot reduce the size of a document opened, except to maximise or minimise. The little square box in the top left hand corner doesn't allow me to see one document behind another. In 10.1 this was possible! How can I tweak this? Bizarrely, with both Firefox and Open Office this function works correctly.
4.When opening stored HTML documents, in 11.1 I am constantly given several options in a pop up box, which warns me that this is an executable text file. I always click on DISPLAY. How can I make this a default? In 10.1 the document simply opened as required.
5.Banshee has been much improved under 11.1. In 10.1 it would often mysteriously close or stop after a track had played, requiring a force quit. Happily, this is no longer the case. But the new version cannot play my Yeah Yeah Yeahs CD, which contains mixed music and visual content. The old Banshee recognised this, gave me the option and let me play the music. The new version simply puts an X against each of the tracks and won't play anything, despite recognising the mixed content nature of the CD!
6.Neither 10.1 nor 11.1 remember select all information when it comes to pasting into a new document if that new document isn't open. If, for example, I highlight text in an HTML document or even in an OpenOffice document and save it, it won't be there to paste (into an email for example) if that document wasn't already open at the time of saving. Am I doing something wrong?
7.10.1 would often frighten my NCR monitor to death! 11.1 has continued this... Essentially, from time to time, and quite randomly, during booting, a pop up box will be displayed saying: D-Sub Out of Range. About half the time, this will mean that a small dark fringe will be left at the bottom of the screen, with a slightly smaller display than usual. On other occasions, the message then disappears as the desktop fills all the available on screen space. What's happening? Can I correct this?

How did you do the install - as a fresh install or as an upgrade?
If you are using your 10.x home directory, it could be that there are kde or gnome incompatibilities between the versions. Try logging in in terminal mode and moving/renaming the .kde or .gnome files and directories to .old say and then starting the xserver.
Your monitor problem could be that you are using an ati or nvidia video card and have not set it up.
For the music: did you install the restricted format extras?
Look in New User How To/FAQ (read only) - openSUSE Forums for the how-tos for these.

It was a fresh install; not an upgrade.
