Newbie to Linux … i clicked something and now the running programs are not showing on the panel next to the system tray. How do I get it back? Please help.

Maybe you ‘Unlocked Widgets’, and deleted a panel or similar. In any case, you can right-click on desktop to get widget menu, and add a ‘Task Manager’ widget again.
