Sax2 in suse 11.x

Hello.
Sax2 fails to run when using suse 11.x and with a S3virge graphics card. It worked with suse 10.3.

Question… what is to be done?

To see the problem I enclose:

  1. the Sax.log which give the name of the graphic card.
  2. Sax console message showing what bothers sax2.
  3. xdpyinfo output, which shows what modules are loaded and which are missing from the server.

Hi buddsinmay1. This can be a difficult, and not well supported chipset, to work with. This output might be helpful:

/sbin/lspci -nnk |grep VGA -A2

It might be helpful to look at /etc/X11/xorg.conf as well.

I’ve seen other posts over time concerning config issues with sax2 and via graphics hardware. (BTW, support for this hardware is supposed to be improving finally).

You may have tried this already, (and it may not work anyway), but try

init 3 (to shutdown X and run in console mode)
sax2 -r -m 0=via

or if that fails

sax2 -r

Once configured, return to runlevel 5 with

init 5

If not successful, manual editing of xorg.conf might be required.

/sbin/lspci -nnk |grep VGA -A2

It might be helpful to look at /etc/X11/xorg.conf as well.

Sorry buddsinmay1. Disregard the via references. I’ll put mistake down to long night working, and still not being with it this morning  Anyway, the ‘s3virge’ driver should be in xorg-x11-driver-video package.

Try (from runlevel 3)

sax2 -r -m 0=s3virge (zero=)
