I do experience this too, nearly all codecs, on everything but Mplayer. It produced itself with the latest updates of Packman and KDE installed (using KDE 3.5). I do not think it is a problem of having it installed rightly. There was as far as I recall the process a "downgrade to...." of a library when installing the newest Amarok-pm. Maybe the automated downgrade installed a non pm version (as the version number might have been higher).
However since then the previous full functionality has been disabled. Will post when I find out why and what library is involved.
Your mplayer of the pm-repository should work fine though......
