Default Frequent "bnx2i-daemon[5857]: socket() failed." messages

This is my first post, so if I'm inadvertently falling foul of some point of etiquette, please forgive me (and let me know, politely). I think I'm in the correct sub-forum but if I'm wrong please tell me where would be more appropriate.

Messages of the form "bnx2i-daemon[5857]: socket() failed." appear in /var/log/messages every 5 seconds. Searches so far have failed to turn up a reason.

The system is apparently working just fine in other respects, but experience has taught me that it is very rarely wise to ignore such insistent syslog reports.

The system has two Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709 four-port gigabit ethernet cards. One card is used for general IP connectivity and the other runs iSCSI connections to a pair of Nexsan SATABeast shelves.

    uname returns
    Code:
    PA1:~ # uname -a
    Linux PA1 2.6.16.60-0.21-smp #1 SMP Tue May 6 12:41:02 UTC 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Restarting a representative selection of daemons makes no difference. Indeed, the messages start up again immediately after rebooting the machine.

Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this effect and how to persuade it to go away?

I can post more information on request but don't want to clutter this one with too many irrelevancies.

Only socket failure I've seen was related to anti-virus blocking the app. Try posting in the network forum, you'll probably get more help there.
