kde4.3. has terminated suse11.1 definitively

Suse 11.1 crashed after an kde update from 4.1…(?) to 4.3.00 with loss of any terminals,so that I wasn’t able to get any influence on the system.
After reformatting the harddisk the diskdrive doesn’t start the installation dvd any more independedly of the used harddisk, but windows keeps running.

Erm, the hard disk doesn’t start the installation process, you have to boot from the DVD in order to do that.

Not quite sure what you are trying to say there.

Changing from KDE 4.1 to 4.3 can be a real ordeal, but there is a thread here somewhere written by the user - caf4926 in the beta area, which gives great instructions on how to do it if you feel like trying again.

Even if you can’t get to a GUI desktop, you can usually switch to a Virtual Terminal (ctrl-alt-f1) to try sorting the problem out.

Unlike another “Popular” “Operating System”, reformatting and re-installing are considered an absolute last resort thing under Linux, and is only needed in dire circumstances.
