Thread: Print server

    Default Print server

    I configured samba as a print server in a SOHO network. I can print via another linux machine via samba but not with Windows 2000/Vista.

    On 2000, I get an error saying "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship". No logon prompts.

    With Vista, I get a prompt and entering the samba user name results in a can not connect error.

    I followed the steps in swerdnas how-to. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Can you show us the [global] stanza from smb.conf and the [printers] stanza?

    vilanye;

    Please respond to Swerdna's message; you can substitute values for any
    sensitive settings. The error on Win2000 sounds like you have Samba setup as
    a "Domain Controller". If this was your intent, then you need to join the
    machine to the domain.

    Have you:
    1) added Samba users with:
    Code:
    smbpasswd -a <username>
    ,
    2) opened the Samba ports on your fire wall ( for testing you should try
    disabling the firewall),
    3) verified that both smbd and nmbd are running?
