Thread: No wifi even after booting with kernel 2.6.31

    Default No wifi even after booting with kernel 2.6.31

    I am using a laptop Dell Inspiron 1440
    dmesg and lspci do not detect the wifi or I am not getting where is it I installed a new kernel 2.6.31 and had checked the Wifi support options in it but when used iwconfig it did not detected the wifi can some one help me what should I do and
    what outputs should I paste here.The same machine is working well with Windows and I am able to use Wifi here.

    The last line of ispci refers to a broadcom usb modem so check / search under network/wireless for info of post for that device.

    As long as you have a 2.6.31 kernel, you only need to install the
    firmware. Check 'dmesg | grep firmware' to verify.

    Using Ndiswrapper I got this error
    FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.

    critter referenced in the excellent getting started in openSUSE sticky

    (which probably has the answer to a few of your other typical
    questions, like how do i play my music, or movies?...i'm NOT saying
    either RTFM/read the book OR don't ask...it is just that those
    stickies solve most problems, and don't require any 'helpers' here to
    make typos that you can't follow...)

    it clearly says

    SO I guess I do not have the driver in 2.6.31 can any one suggest me how to get rid of this issue I have seen this issue being solved

    on some other distros
