Thread: GNOME panel vanished

  1. #1

    Default GNOME panel vanished

    Hi,

My panel at the bottom of the screen has vanished. First off the "shutdown" button in the computer menu vanished so I restarted and when I did that, the entire panel had vanished. I shut down and restarted again but it hasn't helped. What next please?

    Thanks
    Ocky

For a Gnome Panel that's been deleted try this:

Start Gnome Terminal by pressing Alt+F2. Then enter the command: gnome-terminal. DEnter these comamands in the terminal:

    • gconftool-2 --shutdown
    • rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
    • pkill gnome-panel

I got that from digesting this: RE: Restore default panel on gnome desktop?

So, what happens if you do ALT-F2 then type 'gnome-panel'? Does it get reinstated?
