Hi im new in linux OP... so i decided to install opensuse 11.1 in my vaio FW 260 laptop, everything was ok but theres something weird with the processor which is making a lot of noise and works like overloaded, it throws hot air through the ventilator and im worried about it, also the system is kind of slow, the wireless is not working, by the way i think is cuz of the graphic card which is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 and i read its not supported at all... so i just wanna know wut can i do to make my computer faster and with a normal working ... thats the reason i sent vista to the garbage cuz it was so slow and it sucks!! so if somebody wants to help me ill be so gratefull... Im a mechatronics engineering so i use my computer for mathematical calculus, matrix and vectors also in modeling in cad and electronic simulation and control with DAQs and things like that... i heard linux works faster in those taks ... i really need to improve my lap...
    my hardware is:
    -Centrino 2 platform
    -Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26 GHz
-ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 250 MB
    -Hard Drive SATA 320 GB
    -RAM DDR2 3GB

Welcome to the forums. To be able to help you, we need some extra info:
    Which openSUSE did you install?
    32- or 64-bit?
    KDE4 or Gnome?

The HD3470 is out for a while now, should be supported, but I'm not really into ATI cards.
Considering the wireless, please read the sticky in the forums, it will guide you through wifi trouble.

And keep your head up. Linux should be a joy for people in jobs like yours.

Please also google for noise on the vaio. I've read reports about noisy vaio's.
