    Hi
Have you tried removing the ~/.thumbnail/fail directory to tell
Naultilus to regenerate the the thumbnails?
Also noticed on the 11.2 M& install there were no thumbnails for my test
video (mp4) as i hadn't installed the codecs (I use fluendo), once did
that the thumbnail appeared. So I'm guessing the library/codec for the
    video needs to be installed....

    Yes.

    [18:28:46] rolle@peikko:~$ rm -r ~/.thumbnail/fail
rm: cannot delete file /home/rolle/.thumbnail/fail: File or directory does not exist

I have already installed all video codecs I could find... any more hints? :/

    Hi
    It's thumbnails my apologies

Hmmm, well I only have gnome-mplayer (and associated dependencies),
gecko-mediaplayer, smplayer and fluendo codecs installed on the 11.2
    system.

No gstreamer stuff from packman either on this or the 11.2 system.

Removed ~/thumbnails/fail and installed gecko-mediaplayer, but it didn't solve my problem

    Hi
Sorry I'm at a bit of a loss on this one (btw gecko is just some browser
    plugins )

So what happens if you start nautilus from the command line, does it
show any errors when browsing a directory with videos?

Also are these videos on the host machine, I know I don't see
thumbnails if the are on my NAS.

Oh, why I didn't think of that before... dumb me. Yes, it's showing this for any video file and type (translated of localized error message of course):

    ** Message: don't know how to handle video/x-xvid, framerate=(fraction)30000/1001, width=(int)720, height=(int)480
** Message: Error: There is nothing to excract this with. You might have to install needed plugins. gstplaybasebin.c(2327): prepare_output (): /GstPlayBinlay
So basically it says "don't know to handle video/x-xvid, video-axf, video-wmv, mkv, and so on...

Yes they are located on my home folder and external hd. I mean in 11.0 video thumbnails worked fine. No ftp/remote locations whatsoever.

Woah. Now it works! Searched packages including word 'decoder', and updated gstreamer and installed most of the gstreamer plugins. Great! So it was gstreamer after all. Thanks for any help!

I just have tested (openSUSE 11.1, gnome 2.26.3).

I downloaded two video files (one .ogg and one .mpg). Then I opened nautilus
and selected Edit / Preferences / Preview and re-checked that the options
where o.k. (other preview files: always / only files with a size less that:
    100 MiB.)

Then I went to the desktop (where the 2 video files where placed) and noted
that the OGG one is being previewed as expected but the MPG one, no.

So check with several video files formats to see if any of them are acting
    correctly and which one fails.

    Greetings,

Ok, I have the same problem again. I don't know how it happened, but my nautilus doesn't preview any files any more. No image files, no video files, nothing. Nautilus from command line doesn't say anything specific... help?

Ok, false alarm, I get a lot of errors when starting nautilus from command line. Most of them are probably from my own gtk-theme (those who say something of gtk_moz_embed and so on), but this one alarms a bit to my ears:

error: The metadata does not have a thumbnail property
Other than that I don't get any errors.
