    Default HP CP1515N printing problem

    I'm getting a major headache with trying to get my shiny new HP CP1515N to print correctly under Suse11.1. I have always found printer setups under linux to be ludicrously complicated with so many different obscure ways of going about things but usually have managed to get there in the end... Not so this time.

    I have the printer connected by USB for the time as I thought that may be easier than on the network which is my ultimate aim.
    I set it up using Yast printer setup which immediatley found it and identified it correctly as HP color Laserjet cp1515n pcl3,hpcups 3.9.8.36.
    The big problem is that something seems to be slightly awry with the driver - If I print a test page only the pie chart colour disc and the tone bar are printed - no text at all. Similarly if I try and print a document no text or lines are displayed, only inserted graphics....
    I have tried using the Cups manage printing admin tool to see if there is anything I can do there but although it lists the printer as hp:/usb/HP_Color_LaserJet_CP1515n?serial=00CNCT961GTV there is only the one driver option of hpcups 3.9.8.36. to choose from... I suspect that I really need a postscript driver which is what I have always had to use before with other HP printers, but none is on offer. Someone suggested that I shouldnt use CUPS or Yast but that I run hp-setup from the command line as this is the magic cure-all for setting up HP printers... What a load of rubbish that was, hp-setup launches a little printer setup utility which doesnt even find my USB printer - Searching... (bus=usb, search=(None), desc=0)
    error: No devices found on bus: usb...... marvelous....

    Can anyone give me any insight into what exactly is the problem - as right now I have a 200 paperweight sat on my desk :-(

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

    Chris;
    Does this help any:
    http://openprinting.org/show_printer...serJet_CP1515n

    If YaST does not seem to correctly install try directly using CUPS at:
    http://localhost:631/

    When you are asked to authenticate, the user name is "root" and the password
    is: <your root's password>

    Thumbs up Re: HP CP1515N printing problem

    You are a star PV!! I deleted all instances of my previous attempts in both CUPS and YAST printer setup.
    Then tried setting up again within YAST but Yast does not show any alternative drivers so gave up on that straight away. Then tried within CUPS and selected the CP 3505 driver as suggested in the link you provided and I can now print a perfect test page!
    Many thanks for your help with this - I could have spent a long time trying many different drivers had you not pointed me in the right direction....

    shadychris;

    Happy to hear it all ended well. The real thanks should go to those who
    maintain openprinting.org.
