My response to one of their older Get the Facts campaigns:

http://www.ntlug.org/BP-ccox/GetTheFacts

I saw only one of the other threads on this, and I’m amazed after
reading the linked page.
My basic scanner and Samsung laser printer are not supported with
Windows 7 (and were a breeze to install in Linux). Microsoft’s own Age
Of Empires II does not work on Windows 7. The only reason I’ve logged
into Windows in a long time is to run the folding@home GPU client.
Since I gave my video card to my mother when hers died, I haven’t had
a reason to log into Windows 7 at all. (The onboard GPU can’t fold.)
Like many others, I could go on, but it’s kind of pointless.

mmmmmhhhmmmmmmm ? MS offers BestBuy employees Anti-Linux training - openSUSE Forums

Actually it’s pretty spot on. What’s funny is all the threads on various Linux sites with people commenting about it trying desperately to convince themselves and others that it isn’t.

Seriously? Windows Live applications’ non-compatibility is a point against Linux?

So if people said; “The reason Windows is rubbish is because it doesn’t come with grub”, you wouldn’t think they were being a teensy bit dissembling?

Admittedly, I haven’t seen the source material, but if they’re actually claiming that “free updates” or “enhanced security” are pluses for Windows, they’ve drunk the kool-aid.

Have you?

In fact, this link seems to have the original slides. No professional support available. How is that, in any way shape or form, true?

Yes, the lobbying and lies are pretty spot on… why are you using Linux again if all MS says is true?

I don’t have to convince myself that Linux beats the cr@p out of Windows in a lot of areas. I have first-hand experience with that

How many people who shop for computers at BestBuy are likely to have any interest in Linux in the first place? Does BestBuy even sell computers with Linux installed?

Think about this: we’re talking about handling binary information, everything described in digits 1 and 0, and booleans like false / true. Some results of mixing false and true can be called kernel panic and memory failure.

It can vary over time. That is, you may find Best Buy supporting it
every now and then… right now, the answer is probably “no”, but that
may change.

BestBuy used to stock the boxed versions of SUSE and Red Hat at one time
(an example of a type of support).

Red Hat of course pulled out… SUSE stayed for awhile until Novell
purchased them and that ended the retail boxing for them (unless you
order direct or through an online distributor).

It sort of makes sense though. Linux is very powerful, true. To get a
desktop-ish experience from it requires installing and configuring some
things that aren’t legal in the USA… so there will be some
frustration. Frustration leads to returns… something that retailers
don’t like.

This is one of the reasons for having not only online forums, etc, but
good local helpers (e.g. via the local LUG) to help people out with
their installs and configuration issues. This can only benefit the
small retailer that offers Linux btw… just have to educate the end
user on how support is done. If the support base gets strong, even the
big boy retailers might take interest. And there’s always Geek Squad…
a Linux support possibility eventually for a retailer like Best Buy…
IF they decide to move that way.

For many, a Linux distro setup is going to take a bit of hand holding to
get through it all (esp. for the “illegal” stuff). Regardless, having a
local support infrastructure EVERYWHERE is very doable for Linux as a
whole. People just have to be willing to help each other. Geek Squad
won’t be allowed to help out with ripping and DVD playing today (well,
arguably fluendo gets you the legal playing piece, could be a viable
option for at least one popular issue on Linux distros).

And of course, the online forums and such eventually take over as
newbies become more familiar with their new environment.

(sorry to go so far off topic)

I agree that Linux is still down in installed capacity but that does not mean that Microsoft should lie about Windows can do and Linux can’t. I use both OS but as per this siteits not true. The marketing campaigns Microsoft is employing at BestBuy is not healthy either. I have just read that MS is teaching BestBuy employees AntiLinux techniques.

What do you expect after this? Does BestBuy even sell computers with Linux installed was you question. Each seller has a Merchandising strategy depending on the market base and what he has to sell. The reason you might find a Linux laptop to every 4 Windows laptop is the unfair marketing strategies employed by Microsoft. From incentives to shop arrangement all this have been influenced by MS.

Microsoft has been fined severally by the Department of Justice and the European Union .But that hasn’t stopped them. But why lie?

Wow, Microsoft’s blatant bullshit astounds me. Anything to keep first spot aye?
